Workshops
One of the most important aspects of learning the art of Flamenco is learning a variety of styles from a variety of maestros. María Vázquez learned to dance flamenco from this philosophy and is dedicated to organizing workshops to support her students. These workshops are offered periodically throughout the year. They focus on the coordination of body movements, rhythm, and expression, which are fundamental to the flamenco dance.
The emphasis of the workshops will vary depending on the instructor. Some may provide insight into the technique of improvisation, others will concentrate on the rhythmic base of flamenco: the compas (rhythm) as expressed in palmas (clapping), and as applied to footwork, arms and hand movements. The workshops will introduce short choreographies based on the selected palo (theme) by the instructor, such as Bulerías, Tangos, or Seguiriyas.
Normally, workshops last one hour and 30 minutes and can run from 1 to 5 days.
Two class levels will be offered, It is important to recognize your ability level when signing up for workshops:
- Beginner / Intermediate
- Advanced
The instructors also offer private sessions during the time of the workshop.
